III. HAVE YOU COMPARED THE RESULTS OF YOUR E-BUSINESS
EFFORTS WITH YOUR ORIGINAL STRATEGY GOALS?

Typically, an evaluation of the effectiveness of your overall goals will comprise two steps:

    1.  Evaluate Overall E-Business Results

Are the results in line with your original goals for e-business?  If not, consider whether:

  • Your staff has been adequately trained on Internet use
  • You are adequately trained on Internet and technology use
  • You have found the right marketplace for your company
  • You have kept up with fast-paced technology improvements
  • Your effort to sell via Internet is as industrious as your effort to sell offline (including advertising, marketing, market research, targeting customers, and making proposals to and from customers)

    2.  Check for Efficiency Gaps

Think of ways you could make your Internet-based sales run more efficiently.  For example, is your Internet connection adequate for your needs, or have more staff members begun to need access to the web, requiring an upgrade in connection speed? Also, consider whether your Internet site's performance is optimal from the perspective of visitors to your site.  Are you sure the site does not take too long to download?  Check for “broken links” in which visitors are prompted to click for another web page but then do not find the page.  Imagine that you are a visitor by experimenting how easy the site is to navigate.  If you are offering a web shop, evaluate how easy it is to select merchandise and fill out necessary forms online. Another potential area for efficiency improvements is human resources.
