AQUARIUS
The AQUARIUS project aims to develop a sustainable European Electronic
Education/Training and Information Service in the Aquaculture Sector. This service
will be based on the integration of existing and emerging network- and telematic
technologies and protocols, which facilitate flexible communication, information
exchange, and collaborative work between Academic research centres and
businesses (SME's). As from January 1996, a Consortium, in which the University of
Gent, Trondheim, Wageningen and Bergen participate, are building and validating a
'demonstrator' of the Education/Training and Information Service. |

ARIADNE
ARIADNE is a research and technology development (RTD) project pertaining to the "Telematics for Education and Training"
sector of the 4th Framework Program for R&D of the European Union. The project focuses on the development of tools and
methodologies for producing, managing and reusing computer-based pedagogical elements and telematics supported training curricula.
Validation of the project's concepts is due to take place in various academic and corporate sites across
Europe. |

ETHOS
ETHOS will provide a horizontal observatory service to the Telematics Applications Programme and
as such will meet some of the strategic needs of the Programme. The major aim of ETHOS is to monitor
and assess:
- the deployment of applications of information and / or communication technologies in the
areas of common interest covered by the Telematics Applications Programme;
- developments in market trends, state of deployment of telematics applications and user
needs in Europe and other countries and regions;
- developments in both computer and/or telecommunications technologies that present a
potential for telematics applications, in Europe and other countries and regions.

ETUE-NET
TUTUF - Trade Union Training User Forum
The TUTUF is Europe's first on-line user forum devoted to
trade union training on the Internet. In addition to the
English-only maillist (which you can access via the web),
there will be a series of articles in English, French and
German on topics of current interest.
Scandinavian users may also enjoy a corresponding
service, the Scandinavian Forum for Trade Unionist. |

European Digital Cities
An open network for concerted urban development through Telematics
There is an urgent need that the European citizen understands the significance of all the
social, economic and cultural changes involved in the new Information Society. One has to
acknowledge that the non-understanding of the nature of these changes produces some
resistance and fear about our common future: the world-wide competitiveness of Europe,
the employment situation, privacy issues, etc. To overcome this resistance and fear about
the future, Europe needs a series of demonstration projects in real situations: at real sites
with the enablers and the users in a real market environment. Cities and towns are, by their
very nature, best suited to represent - at the local democratic level- the 'chemistry' of all the
social, economic and cultural changes of the Information Society. This is why the
Commission welcomes the bottom up initiatives of a large number of cities and regions to
cooperate to identify the European dimension of the local developments. |

MEGATAQ
The MEGATAQ objective is to provide Telematics Applications Projects (TAPs)
with evaluation guidelines and consultancy. The evaluation techniques are based on
a scientific understanding of users' needs and when applied can aid in the development
and validation of telematics applications and services MEGATAQ is a partnership between
the Faculty of Technology & Society at The Technical University of Delft Netherlands and
the Multimedia Communications Group at the University of Glasgow, UK. |

TELOS
The objective of the TELOS project is to implement and demonstrate a telematic service for
language learning and tutoring. TELOS addresses the urgent needs of educational, industrial and rural
language training centres (LTCs) with regard to both administrative reorientation and pedagogic
reform. |

TEN
The main objective of the TEN project, (based on ETSIT a previously successful
programme in Spain using HISPASAT), is to experiment the concept of "Real-Time
Virtual Classroom" covering six European Countries, and based on an integrated satellite
(HISPASAT and EUTELSAT) terrestrial (ISDN and LAN) network. It might be the
ferment of future national tele-education networks with a fully transnational capability. |

VADE MECUM
VADE MECUM will take place within a corridor area linking towns, cities and regions across three EU member states (Ireland, UK and the Netherlands). It has a topography, identified problems and requirements typical of those found across the European Union
, thus making it an ideal research environment for transport telematics. As a potential technology demonstration site it has examples of:
- Transport modes and interchange (road, rail, bus, coach, ferry, air, barge)
- Movements (urban to inter-urban, inter-regional, international, across land and sea borders)
- Route users, requirements and restrictions (heavy passenger flows, major freight movements, multi-modal options, route choice and route restrictions for drivers - physical and meteorological)
- The involvement of a variety of organisation types (national, regional, city/urban borough, regulated, deregulated, public, private, manufacturing, consulting, educational)
